Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about membership, hosting, and how Rum & Thatch works. Still stuck? Reach us at contact@rumandthatch.com.

What is Rum & Thatch?
A free members’ club for the tiki and tropical-escapism scene: the modern tiki revival, gathered in person. Every month we meet at a great tiki bar (a Mixer), on the sand (a Driftwood Social), and at a cigar lounge (an Ember Night). See How It Works for the full picture.
Is there a tiki club in Jacksonville?
Yes: you found it. Rum & Thatch hosts a monthly Mixer at a great Jacksonville tiki bar, a Driftwood Social on the beach, and an Ember Night at an area cigar lounge. One free membership covers all of Northeast Florida, including Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, and St. Augustine. Strictly 21+.
Where do Parrot Heads and trop rock fans meet in Northeast Florida?
Plenty of the flock lands with us: if boat drinks, island time, and Jimmy Buffett records are your religion, our Mixers and beach Driftwood Socials across Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach, and St. Augustine will feel like home. We’re not an official Parrot Head club, just fellow travelers, and membership is free.
What tiki bars does Rum & Thatch gather at?
Mixers rotate through the best rooms in the market: see the Northeast Florida tiki bar guide for the working shortlist, from Jacksonville hotel speakeasies to St. Augustine’s waterfront tiki spots. Members hear where the next one lands first.
How do I join?
Start free on the Mixers waitlist: add your email and city. Jacksonville is first; we open new Florida markets one by one as each scene takes hold, and every signup tells us where to light the torches next. Membership is strictly 21+.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Membership is free: the monthly Mixers, the Driftwood Socials, the Ember Nights, your profile, friends, and messages are all included. No card, no invite, no catch.
Do I have to use my real name?
No. Real names are optional: you set a username, and that’s what other members see across profiles, the directory, and messages. We still verify real identities behind the scenes (it’s what keeps the community safe), but what you show the room is up to you.
What are the Driftwood Socials?
Once a month, each market gathers on the sand at golden hour, a low-key, no-agenda hang to close out the day, exotica included. Every launch market is coastal, so the setting comes free. Attendees are responsible for following local beach ordinances.
What are Ember Nights?
Our slowest gathering: an evening at a great Florida cigar lounge, once a month per market. Low light, leather chairs, and conversation that outlasts the ash. No cigar required (plenty of members come just for the room and the company), and like everything we do, it’s strictly 21+.
Do I have to drink alcohol to take part?
Not at all: plenty of the craft is in the ritual, and great mocktails are always in reach. That said, Rum & Thatch is centered on craft spirits and is strictly 21+; you must be of legal drinking age to join, host, or attend.
Where is it available?
Northeast Florida is live first (Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach, and St. Augustine), free to join, no invite needed. Five more Florida markets follow, one at a time: Miami, Orlando, Tampa Bay, the Southwest Coast, and the Keys. Each opens with its own Organizer and a vetted venue list, so the scene is real from night one. Markets beyond Florida come later: join the waitlist for your city and we’ll follow the demand.
Is there a mobile app?
The companion app, Tiki Club, is coming soon: live maps, RSVPs, and NFC coaster taps that unlock collectible passport badges. For now, everything runs through this web portal.
