The Jacksonville tiki scene, gathered

Rum & Thatch is a free tiki social club in Jacksonville, Florida. Once a month we take over a great tiki or tropical bar for a Mixer, gather on the sand at golden hour for a Driftwood Social, and settle into a cigar lounge for an Ember Night. If you love tiki bars, exotic rum, craft cocktails, Polynesian Pop, exotica records, or trop rock, this is your crew — and it costs nothing to join.

Jacksonville is our first market, and the scene here is better than most people realize: real tiki rooms hiding inside hotels, beach bars with events culture, and a coastline made for a sunset hang. We're the club that connects the people who already love it.

Where the torches get lit

Our working shortlist of Jacksonville tiki rooms runs from Red Lei Lounge — a secret hotel speakeasy doing true tiki — to Wreck Tiki Lounge out at Jacksonville Beach, a true tiki bar with a real DJs-and-events culture. Mixers rotate through rooms like these, and members hear first.

For Parrot Heads and trop rock fans

If Jimmy Buffett records are a load-bearing part of your personality, you will be in good company. We're not an official Parrot Head club, but the flock is more than welcome: boat drinks, island time, and songs that sound like somewhere else are roughly our entire deal. Come to a Mixer and find out how much crossover there is between trop rock and Martin Denny.

Not just Jacksonville

Gatherings rotate across all of Northeast Florida: St. Augustine's waterfront tiki spots and Ponte Vedra Beach's cigar lounges are all part of the same chapter, so one free membership covers the whole coast.

Rooms we’re building the scene around

A working shortlist, not a directory (and not an endorsement deal): the Jacksonville rooms we love.

  • Red Lei Lounge

    Jacksonville

A secret hotel speakeasy doing true tiki — the room most locals walk past without knowing it's there.

  • Wreck Tiki Lounge

    Jacksonville Beach

True tiki with an actual DJ-and-events culture, a block off the sand on 1st Street North.

  • Flask & Cannon

    Jacksonville Beach

Tiki-leaning beach cocktails, with a second location down in St. Augustine.

  • Mayport Garden Club

    Mayport / Atlantic Beach

Tropical and low-key at the north end of the beaches.

  • The Lemon Bar

    Neptune Beach

A beach bar rather than a tiki bar, and one of the best places on this coast to end up at sunset.

  • The Conch House

    St. Augustine

The iconic waterfront tiki huts built out over the water — the single most recognizable tropical room in Northeast Florida.

  • Suffering Bastard Tiki

    St. Augustine

True tiki in the old city, named for one of the canon's great drinks.

  • Boat Drinks

    St. Augustine

A tropical craft sanctuary pouring rare rums — the most serious rum list on this list.

  • Permanent Vacation

    St. Augustine

An escapist concept bar that takes the premise as seriously as the drinks.

  • Odd Birds

    St. Augustine

Craft cocktails with a genuinely strong bartender culture — not tiki, but the people behind the bar know the canon.

  • Tradewinds Tropical Lounge

    St. Augustine

A long-running tropical lounge with live music most nights.

  • Tini Martini Bar

    St. Augustine

    Waterfront cocktails, best taken outside.

  • Cap's on the Water

    St. Augustine

More restaurant than bar, on the Intracoastal — the one on this list built for a group at sunset.

  • Island Girl Cigar Bar

    Ponte Vedra Beach

The room the Ember Night format was designed around, and next door to Pusser's Caribbean Grille — one trip, two stops.
